Chesterfield
Chesterfield is one of the oldest cigarette brands in America, first coming out in 1873. With a name like Chesterfield, smokers associated it with the rare and lovely quality Chesterfield furniture. However, it was originally named for Chesterfield County, Virginia. Virginia was (and still is) well known for growing premium tobacco. It was marketed as cigarettes for men and women alike. It was first made by Drummond Tobacco Company, until sold to the America Tobacco Company in 1898. When that company folded, Chesterfield was eagerly made by Liggett & Meyers Tobacco Company until sold to Philip Morris International in 1998. Chesterfield advertised on billboards, magazines, radio and the early days of television.
Chesterfield is considered one of the best cigarettes for smoking one after another, instead of just occasionally, because they were mild. You were supposed to be able to smoke them all day and not get sick, like some other stronger brands. Chesterfield thinks smoking should be a pleasure and not a necessity. Famous Chesterfield smokers include James Dean, Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball and The Blues Brothers. Ironically, the uniquely American brand is not so popular in America any more; it is much more popular in Europe. You can buy Chesterfield cigarettes from our online store.
