I am running computers that are a old as 1992. Newest is 2002.
But, I run the ‘nix OSes, on 86, and have 8 Macs, which are lightspeed fast, about 50times faster than Microsoft, plus are concurrent multi-tasking, multi-processing environments. http://pclinuxos.com needs no drivers and installs in about 20 minutes on any 400mhz with 256 Mb for any PC to resemble Mac.
I service all Macs, plus HP, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, and Microtel, plus whatever “walks in the door”. Anyway, HP, Dell offer fast systems, so check out their web pages.
A lot of folks are going with the Macintosh system, also immune to the “114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions”. Macs can run multiple OSes, as can any PC with any of the GNU/Linux or *BSD systems, now numbering 400+ free downloads.
If you run Microsoft OS, as a second OS, you will have to fight their problems, without any support.
A Mac Mini (buy your own LCD monitor), or an iMac 17″ might fill your bill. Macs are Consumer Reports choice for service, warranty, reliability, in every category, from laptop to desktop!
(August, Sep. Oct. 2006 CU Best Buys!).
All new Macs have Intel Duo technology. All Macs come with the complete PRO suite of software, that you pay extra for, in Dell and HP! (Dell and HP sell their systems with trial software, and after the sale, you have 10 days to 30 days to pay about $650 for it all!).
My first incilination for the users best buy, is to get a Mac!

NEVER get HP, Nothing that has to do with HP. if hp tried selling you a pack of gum, you better get an extended warranty.

I’ve never been disappointed with an HP product- except be prepared to be annoyed if you need tech support and you don’t speak Indian.

Well if your near kissimmee florida i will build you one cheap… I dont charge “large” labor fees. Other wise go with ether gateway or HP. Cost wise gateway is hard to beat, otherwise the HP offer well balanced machines.

The Dell Inspiron 1200 is my first and only computer, and I bought it on recommendations from others that Dell’s are reliable and a good value for their money. I found this to be true. I can’t say much for their customer service and tech support, but the computers are GOOD.

I build my own and repair PCs for a living and have found HP to be the best bet for the average user. They can be reset to factory settings easily. If you are a gamer, make sure you select one with lots of ram and a hi end video card.

Go to tigerdirect.com and have them build you a computer, this way you get what you want and there’s no pre-loaded software to charge you with. If you must buy from a commercial brand I’d shop around alittle, treat it like food coupons, tell this company you can get this offer can they beat it!!! good luck!

HP. You can customize all you want and the support is excellent, a thing I cannot say of other manufacturers.

I would suggest an HP Media Center with a dual core CPU (either AMD or Intel).
Great package … all the multimedia software you need.
A true powerhouse PC .. lots of RAM ..big HDD, etc …
PVR functions (pause live TV or schedule recordings).
Many come complete with large screen LCDs.
    Great warranty & service.

Why don’t you get another custom built?
My 2nd choice would be HP.

  15. INOA says:

Make a custom biuld one at your local computer shop, you will find they are easier to upgrade. But if you have to buy one from a major department store choose an ACER. They last and last…..
