I am re-branding my friends business and he wanted a new logo to start off with. His business is a builder/handyman company.
What do you think of my attempt? Are there any aspects that need improving from design, structure, colour palette, etc?
The logo itself will not be used on vans etc but business cards and their website.

A Company Logo Is Branding, Therefore Could A Logo Be Considered Contact Information For A Company/product?

A company logo is not in and of itself BRANDING. Branding is the “promise” that the marketer makes to its customer. That promise is supposed to be delivered upon consistently, each and every time.
One of the best examples of BRANDING is Starbucks Coffee. Every time you see advertising for Starbucks Coffee it has the same look and feel to it. This look and feel captures the essence of who Starbucks Coffee is. And it doesn’t matter which Starbucks Coffee location you visit, in which city of the country, because you always expect the same “customer experience.” THAT is branding – delivering upon the expectation that you, the marketer, promise your customer.
A logo is PART of a brand. It should capture the essence of who the company is and what they do. But a logo is not contact information. CONTACT INFORMATION should tell the customer how to reach you. A logo seldom does that. A logo might tell a customer what the sign looks like outside your business, but it won’t tell them how to find you.
Contact Information is traditionally relegated to Web sites and the like. Some product packaging may tell the consumer how to get a hold of the company if they have a comment or a concern about the product, but it is never part of the company logo.

I’m curious if the designer makes it for me does the logo belong to him or me? because i’d be placing this on my shirts at first. Do i have to buy the copyright from him?
Would it be better for me to draw it and for the artist to refine it, making it look more professional so in that way i have all the rights to it because i did the original concept drawing of it?

Saturday, July 25th, 2009The idea is to wood burn a logo into a box so that they are all the same and easy to do. Do I find someone who makes custom electric wood burning tools? A custom branding iron? Is there a way to use a stencil? Other techniques? I have no idea and really appreciate the feedback from experienced wood burners. If you have recommendations for suppliers, that is also great.
