Mothers? Craft People? Help? How Can I Add Some Kind Of Design To A Cd Case (made Of Simulated Leather?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

I bought a 336 slot CD case for my girlfriend because she has one that has so many pages in it it wont close. But the only brand and size that I know is quality is the exact same one I have. I don’t know if she’ll care if we have identical CD cases. But just in case. Is there anything I can do to make hers more special? I don’t know how to or if I can put any kind of design on a case like this. Here is a link to a picture of it:http://www.cyril-hanouna.com/Case-Logic-
Her favorite flowers are lilies. So, if there is some way I could patch a small Lily on the corner that would be ideal! But I’ll take any suggestions. Thanks. :)
p.s. it’s for Christmas… in case that inspires you.

What Kind Of Laptop Should I Get For College As A Graphic Design Student?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I’m looking for a laptop for school next year (I’m going to be a freshman at the University of Illinois). I found these basic questions to help you guys answer my question :)
(Also, I’m trying to avoid buying a mac for now)
Thank you SO much for any quality responses!
1) What is your budget?
up to $1500.
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a good sized screen but still easily portable
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don’t like?
a. Like:
b. Dislike:
no preferences, just looking for the best :P
5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
graphic design (photoshop) + I would like to be able to have multiple things running (web pages, photoshop etc) at the same time without the laptop freezing or freaking out.
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Both. A good battery life would be very nice but not completely necessary
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games?
No, no games.
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
More rather than less
9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you’re considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
Itd be nice to see it beforehand but no big deal.
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
windows
11) From the choices below, what resolution would you prefer?
whatever would be best for graphic design
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
No preference.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook’s looks and stylishness important to you?
Yes.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
a good 3-4 years at least
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
all would be convenient lol
THANK YOU! :)

Are The Striking Similarities Between Software Development And God A Mere Coincidence, Or By Design?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Software Development:
– You think carefully about a design for an upcoming project, using an operating system, development environment, and design tools you’re comfortable with.
God:
– You think carefully about a design for an upcoming project. You create your own universe as a blank slate.
Software Development:
– You lay down a framework on which to build the logic of your program. It has inputs and outputs and rules for each part of the program to follow. In the meantime, between coffee breaks and boring meetings, you write the initial documentation and put it up on a wiki page on the corporate intranet.
God:
– You create quantum physics and biology and indeed, life itself. You create the earth, a wide array of life forms, and human beings. You create a habitable living space for them to be fruitful and multiply, and you provide them a Book by which you tell your story and tell humans how to live their lives.
Software Development:
– Dissatisfied with the boredom of waiting for a project manager to get back to you, or for users to test your creation, you decide to tweak some of the variables on a test environment to see what’ll happen. You flip the signs of some dollar amounts to see what happens. You modify some variables of a running process to see what “falls out”. You ask a user to push some buttons or input some values and track their activity to observe the result.
God:
– Bored with omnipotence and omniscience, you decide to tweak your creation, earth, with a few variables. You divert some asteroids from the rim of the solar system and send them crashing to earth at random intervals. You poke a guy named Steve Irwin square in the chest with a stingray’s barb, just to see what happens. You crack the sea floor, unleashing a massive earthquake and a tsunami which floods thousands of miles of coastline. You carefully observe the impact of the changes you make, as well as the changes that spontaneously occur as a result of your system’s own internal energies, imbued with power by you.
Software Development:
– The day for the initial release has come. Customers line up to your e-commerce site to purchase and download the first version of your product. You offer incentives including a chance to win a $1,000 Amazon Gift Card and even a brand new Toyota Yaris for purchasing your product. You bundle with the product the initial documentation, saved as a huge HTML document, directly off the wiki page. You had a few (cute) interns give it a once-over, and are confident it’s all the users need to make use of the software.
God:
– The end of days for earth have come. You haven’t updated your Book in ages, although at one point you played a trick on a fellow you created who was given the name Brigham Young and tweaked his neurons with a substance you designed, which activated after he had a meal of some unusual, but tasty, mushrooms, after which he decided to write his own quaint treatise on your will and words, all fabricated but nonetheless pretty flattering. You begin the steps towards ending the universe.
Software Development:
– It’s been a year since your initial release. Bug reports arrive daily, but you don’t care, you’ve banked enough coin with corporate support contracts and subscriptions to enable you to take a 6-month sabbatical in China. You grin to yourself smugly and think, “They’re just users, they’re a dime a dozen!”
God:
The star the earth was circling has grown into a red giant and enveloped the earth, destroying all life, except for John McCain and Ann Coulter. As they gasp their last, they ask you why they’ve been forsaken and all that jazz. You roll your eyes and let the system run its course. The bones of billions of your creatures on earth have long since been pulverized or fossilized. You grin to yourself smugly and think, “They were just humans, they’re a shekel a dozen!”

My Grandparents Are Letting Me Design My Room! Need Teenager Ideas, Help?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Hey Yahoo Answers,
OK, so I’m moving back home to my room that I left when I was ten and I used to stay in all two months of summer since. Now I am moving back in, I’m fifteen, I’ll be sixteen in March. So anyhow, my Granny and Pops are letting me do whatever I want to it, because I really want a fresh start and I want to change that room up a bit, make it more like a teenagers room and make it funky! I’m super excited (it’s nice to be excited and have something to think about until Monday). So anyhow, I get new EVERYTHING, from the floor to the the paint to the electronics to the furniture. And my Pops is making it so that I have a bathroom connected to my bedroom, and that’s the only entrance, so I’m getting my own BATHROOM! Super awesome! But I need some help, please.
Teenagers, what should I do? It’s so much design work! We are talking out the carpet and getting hardwood floor, and extending the closet, plus the door to my now, very own, bathroom! I don’t know what colour to paint my room! I have a large bay window and a side, normal window.
I need all new furniture- I want…a queen size bed, a desk, two end tables, a hide-a-bed couch, a chair for just sitting on, and a desk chair.
I need electronics- I want…a camera, a laptop, an iPod, a TV, a DVD player, cell phone and printer.
And anything else…
Can you help me with links you like and opinions on what brand I should get for what…ideas are what I am looking for.
And maybe some outfit and make-up help. I like preppy stores and my hair is blonde, I have fair skin and emerald, green eyes.
Thanks so much!!
Julia.
BTW…I am NOT a spolied brat, you would have to have lived in my shoes for the last five years at my mom and step-dad’s house to understand that. My grandparents are re-doing their whole house, and now that I’m moving in, it gives my Granny one more thing to change (she loves change) and my Pops one more thing to fix and work on (he always needs to be busy and likes to use his hands). Plus, I think they are just so excited for me to be back, and this is my Christmas and Birthday presents too. Plus my daddy is buying lots of the electronics, he hasn’t seen me in forever and I’m his only child, his only family, and it’s Christmas and Birthday stuff as well.
Thanks!
Julia.

Recommended Laptop Specifications For Graphic Design Major?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Hello,
I am looking for a laptop to fit my needs as a student majoring in graphic design. I would like some suggestions on what kind of specifications I should be looking for while I’m shopping for the laptop that I’ll be using for the majority of my work.
I would like to purchase a laptop under the Sony brand name, but I am willing to consider others. One thing I won’t be considering are Macbooks, solely because of my budget.
So, what key specifications should I look out for? (Screen size, DDR Memory, Graphics card, etc..)
Thanks!

What Would Be Best For Design And Photography?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I’m not very computer savvy so I need some help. I’m getting a new computer and I want to get the best one for the price. I want it to last me a few years. I’m 16 and I don’t plan on buying another one until I’m at least halfway through college. I don’t like blowing money. I do a lot of art and I’m expanding into digital. Graphic design and photography. This is important because I need pieces for my college portfolio. What’s a good brand? Some people are telling me to get a Mac, others say it’s overpriced for what you get. What’s a good price for a laptop anyway? And how much memory would I need? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is This Illegal To Do For You Graphic Design Portfolio?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I have never looked into it, but I am thinking of updating my portfolio, and was curious to know if it were illegal, or legal to in fact create a new design or logo ( for portfolio purposes only ) to make a new one for an exsisting well known brand etc…also, is it illegal to re create an add and display it on your portfolio? I have always stuck to 100% my own ideas, and fake companys for mine, however I am looking now to update it and make it so that people can “relate” to it more , by seeing names they recognize ( imbued with my own design )…is this legal?
I don’t think they ever went over this in my classes in college, and if they did I forgot >.<
Thank you in advance =)
