Why Do Some Companies And People Have A Problem With The Virgin Brand And Richard Branson?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

With the problems Virdin Media formally known as NTL Telewest cable tv. Virgin media and Sky TV are having differences with each other over how much sky tv want virgin tv to pay for their channels last Tuesday midnight they had not come to an agreement so virgin had no choice but to drop six sky channels.
I remember in the later 80’s early 90’s British Airways tried its best to put virgin atlantic out of business because they had monopoly over the route to the states. Then when Richard Branson applied to the national lottery and camelot pulled out everything they could to stop Richard from running the lottery.
Why is it in some business circles somes businesses feel threatened by the Virgin Brand. I admire Richard Branson how he started off with a market stall in London to self made Billionair.
These companies have to realise that its the consumers who lose and will vote with their feet and go elsewhere.

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

How Authentic Are The Names Of Famous Designer Companies?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Every designer/brand name has a marketing team, right? so what i wanna know is, just how authentic are so called “name brands” and how authentic is the name of the designer? i just find it hard to accept that any kind of name can make it to a “designer name,” there must be a certain degree of thought that goes into what exactly makes one name more marketable than another. NOTE: i do NOT mean based on the quality of the goods, i am talking specifically about the NAME OF THE COMPANY/DESIGNER itself!! (some of those names just sound too good to be real…:-))

Instead Of Allowing Smokers To Sue Tobacco Companies Shouldn’t Instead They Face Criminal Charges?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Smoking is a choice that smokers make freely so they shouldn’t be allowed to sue. Yet, tobacco executives who knowingly target the marketing of dangerous drugs to our children and who are purposely making those drugs more addictive and deadly should be liable for criminal charges like reckless endangerment or murder.
The Health Department has found that in the last 6 years the levels of nicotine in cigarettes has by design risen 10 %, making it harder to quit and easier to get hooked.
The study showed increased amounts of nicotine are now delivered to the lungs of smokers regardless of brand.
The study was done in Massachusetts as it is one of only three states that requires tobacco companies to submit information about nicotine.
Marlboro, Newport and Camel brands intensely marketed towards young smokers now deliver more nicotine than they did only a few years ago. More black smokers smoke menthols so its very significant that the nicotine in them rose more than 20 %.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Luxottica is a little-known Italian company specializing in eye wear. Its many brands, however, are famous: Giorgio armani, Channel, Yves st. Laurent, Ray-Ban, and a host of others. Luxottica is the world’s largest maker of branded eye wear and is highly profitable. This producer also owns the world’s largest optical chain, Lenscrafters, a U.S. firm, which it bought in 1995 from U.S. shoe, a company eager to recoup its capital and reclaim its management attention from a highly competitive businesses. At the time, Lenscrafters was bigger than Luxottica’s brands have enormous power: Why take such a risk to purchase a retailer when there are plenty of other ways to take these brands to market? what is the reason to vertically integrate forward?

What Technology Companies Risk Entering Other Markets?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

What companies and examples have thier been of where a company has succeeded in one market and then used thier brand to enter a completly unrelated new market, the more recent the example the better, I can only think of Apple but that example is backwards as they were in computers, started doing MP3 players which were so successful they re-invigorated thier computer sales!
