I’m going to go against the grain here.
I have used custom clubs (clones, knock offs, etc) for going on 3 years now. I have enjoyed them. My game has improved by more than 12 strokes during that same time. They had a part in the improvement.
Someone said that there are differences even between clone manufacturers. They are right. Choose a manufacturer that has a good reputation and guarantees their product.
The real key is to have clubs custom fitted to you and your swing. Don’t ignore the importance of the shaft in club performance either. The shaft is the engine of the club. You need good shafts.
The golf ball doesn’t know how much you paid for the clubs.
Golf club tech has pretty much reached it’s apex, as of several years ago. Thats why you are seeing adjustable heads and interchangeable shafts. I believe your best bet would be to search for a good used set. They often are a fraction of the original price and are just as good as todays models.
I feel you could do this. But there are also good and bad knock-offs,
you should be careful.
DRice has the proper answer. Heed his words and be better off for them.
they will play similarly at what your shooting, but will not quite feel right.
I could go into a long answer here…but I’ll cut right to the point….don’t do it. Don’t waste your time. You get what you pay for and golf clubs are no exception….the people selling these clubs are doing it purely for money…they know they’re selling junk and they don’t care about you…only your $$. They won’t stand behind their product when it fails either. There are many more viable options for extremely low prices. Check out http://www.golfsmith.com in their clubmaking section. Check http://www.rockbottomgolf.com. Good luck!
Knock offs, SUCK! Look at Macgreagor mid-sized irons…they were bought out by golfsmith, great clubs for the $$$. Find a used square driver by a name brand company…still much netter than chinese knock Callaway.
It’s better to get a set of real Callaway, X-14, X-16, X-18, X-18r, or X-20’s than chinese X-22’s! same properties…Callaway just makes cosmetic changes.
Just about everyone that has played golf for any period has gotten sucked into the knock off clubs..Your favoring the Callaways because they look like and favor the real thing and Callaway has a good rep…And that’s the only resemblance there is, they look similar but thats the only thing knockoffs are good for…The Knock off club is for show and showing off, but who are u showing off for, no one cause Ill look like a fool that cant afford callaways but want some look alikes, which to other golfers says a whole lot about ur game..The best thing u can do is wait for the clubs to go on sale, which will be soon cause new models will be coming out..and look for them used in the various online warehouses…oh and its not the club its ur swing…$1000 set of clubs doesn’t guarantee anything…
Lee Trevino once said ” its not the arrow its the Indian”
Someone here already told you that knocks are junk. I second.
The single most important thing with clubs is to get them fitted by a pro or a club builder.
If you are serious about your game you will heed this advice.
You probably could not swing Tiger,s clubs but there are clubs out there just for you.
I play with older Big Bertha Callaways. I recently bought a complete set of Callaway FT iBrids for $500 new. I called Callaway and verified the serial number and they checked out. However, upon further inspection, they don’t have a titanium club head. Now I am trying to selling them for $300. If anyone wants them, let me know at srfarmer2000@gmail.com. I took them into a store, and side by side they look the same.
