Do you want it to be good for gaming right now? Because if your buying a $170 CPU in a $500 budget your going to end up with a cheap GPU which is probably the most critical component in gaming.
People why are you giving advice for like a $1500 computer when he says his budget is $500?
Here’s a link to a previous build by Tom’s Hardware, it was $625 total at time of build but since you don’t need a HDD and the aftermarket cooler isn’t necessary so should be hovering around $500. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/over…http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/over…

Get a 64-bit operating system. This is a must.
    >2GB of memory on a 32-bit OS don’t do you jack ****.
Buy a quad core Q series CPU. Last years model, Q6600 is a damn fine choice, and can be had for a great price.
Go with a good price on 4 to 6GB of memory. Go for the cheaper DDR2 800MHZ. There is no such thing as 1066mhz DDR3, that is just stock overclocked memory, and your motherboard has to be able to read the stock overclock settings, which rarely works. Besides 1066 is often more unstable unless it’s top of the line expensive stuff.
HD4870 and GTX260 are great choices, but you may not need such a powerful graphics card.
Look for a good bundle price on a Chassis + Powersupply combo that has a 6-pin molex connector for graphics card. At least 550W if you are gonna use one of those 3 graphics cards you mentioned.

    Hello sir,
I am currently a Sophomore in High School, and I go to the Adavanced Placement Computer Science Class. You could kind of call me a nerd. LOL
    Anyways, here is my opinion:
#1. Wait for Windows 7: Faster, and Cheaper.
#2. 4 Gigabytes of Random Access Memory: You Can Get Really Cheap In New Egg, or Amazon.
#3. GTX260: Very Good, I Likey Alot. LOL!
#4. Speem of RAM: Depends of your budget.
    #5. Intel Core i7
I can’t really help you on the other stuff, but hopefully by things helped… at least a little! LOL!

It’s good to see someone taking initiative and building their own pc! :)
I will go down the list of your parts, and critique them
    1) Case: Good choice. I have antec 900, and antec 300 is similar. Antec builds solid cases.
    2) Processor: Ok, now here it gets tricky. The quad core is definately better than the dual core for future games, but the core i7 920 is even better. However, for the core i7, you need a new mobo and a new processor, neither which are cheap. It’s your decision which one to get.
    3) Ram: Your ram is fine, 2×2 is great. Speed doesn’t really matter if your not overclocking; and even if you are 1066 should be fine. I recommend OCZ and patriot.
    4) Out of those three, I would choose gtx 260. If you can, go for the 280 gtx. Keep in mind that for the games you listed, a 9800 will be fine, but if you want to play any new games that require a lot of power it might not cut it.
I got all my parts from newegg; newegg has never let me down.
    Good Luck!
EDIT: lol, no such thing as gtx 250
