Of course! Just for touch ups are fine with a small sewing machine. I would recommend Singer as a good sewing machine. They’ve been around for a long time, and are very good!

Just be careful which kind of “small” sewing machine you choose. Some are just not worth the money. You can find a regular size machine for almost the same amount as a good small one. Sometimes K-mart or Target put(regular) machines on sale for around $80.00.

if you buy a singer going on reputation you will be very disappointed. singer quit being a good machine sometime in the 70’s or 80’s i don’t remember. for what you want it would work fine but it is not the singer of yesterday. i would not recommend a hand held sewing machine. it will just frustrate you. for what you are wanting to do with the machine i would say any basic machine from any of the discount store will work just fine. you may also try your local sewing machine repair shop. sometimes they sell very good basic used machines for very little money.
    good luck
